Refunds & Returns-Textbooks
Your book(s) must be in the same condition as when purchased and accompanied by the original, unaltered receipt (sorry, photocopies not accepted). New books in which writing is apparent and/or have been damaged may not be returnable at the discretion of the Textbook Department. All post refund period textbook sales are final.
Textbooks may be returned without re-stocking fee for the following reasons:
- You return your books before the Bookstore closes on the 3rd day of classes for the Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters;
- You return your books before the Bookstore closes on the 2nd day of classes for the Summer Quarter;
- If you officially change class sections after the "Return Without Penalty" deadline;
- You drop a class in which you were officially enrolled;
- Your class was cancelled and the Bookstore has received notification from the college;
- Your professor has changed textbooks and notified the Bookstore.
Textbook returns will be subject to a 15% re-stocking fee if returned for any of the following reasons:
- You were not officially enrolled in the class (waitlisted), and you waited until after the above stated "Return Without Re-stocking Fee" deadlines;
- You do not satisfy the above stated conditions for receiving a refund without penalty.
Refunds & Returns-Book Rental
No Refnds on rentals. Rented out items with defects may by exchanged within 24 hours for the same item. Items not returned by the due date will automatically be billed to your account at new price and will result in an academic hold including withholding grade(s) and transcript. A processing fee of 10% of new price (minimum of $5.00) will be added to each item. Outstanding rental charges will be sent to collections after 30 days.
Refunds & Returns-Electronic Books
We understand that customers may want to return a digital book for a refund because of various reasons. Because there is no physical product, digital books may not be returned to the bookstore once the title is activated. This means refunds are not available for activated digital books. Please contact the bookstore if you need assistance with any technical difficulties related to your digital book purchase. We will replace the digital book file if you encounter technical problems during the download.
Refunds & Returns-General Merchandise
Non-text merchandise may be returned within 7 days of purchase for a refund or exchange, unless otherwise stated, when accompanied by the original, unaltered receipt (sorry, photocopies not accepted). Items purchased on sale are not eligible for refund or exchange.
Refunds & Returns-Computer Software
Computer software may be returned within 7 days of purchase for a refund or exchange, unless otherwise stated, when accompanied by the original, unaltered receipt (sorry, photocopies not accepted). All computer software is not returnable to the Bookstore, if opened.
Some manufacturers offer a 30-day trial period. That condition of sale is with the manufacturer of the software and not with the Bookstore. Because of the extremely low prices offered by the Bookstore, you must deal directly with the manufacturer in such cases.

Defective Merchandise
We will gladly exchange any defective merchandise unless the manufacturer's warranty requires other means of replacement or repair. The Bookstore will never knowingly sell defective merchandise, so please report to us your concerns regarding the quality of what we sell. Additionally, we cannot guarantee the content quality of your course materials; we can only guarantee the physical quality.
Returned Checks
If you write a check to us on which payment is refused by your bank, you may be subject to certain fees besides the fees levied by your bank. The fee for a returned check is $25.00 payable in cash, money order or cashier's check (sorry, no personal checks accepted) at the bookstore. You MUST make payment or provide us with a letter from your bank indicating their error within 30 days.
Failure to respond within 30 days to our request for payment will result in your check being referred to the Santa Clara District Attorney's office. Please help us avoid this step by taking the responsibility for your personal finances or at least contacting us to explain the situation.
